How Should a Dad Hat Fit? (A Simple Guide)

Honest dad hat advice from Wealth Chaser

A dad hat should sit a little loose and low — that’s the whole point. Here’s how it’s supposed to fit, how to adjust the strap, and how to break one in.

The right fit

A dad hat sits low on the forehead with the brim just above your eyebrows. It should feel snug but not tight — no red line on your forehead. The unstructured crown is meant to sit soft and slightly slouched, not stand up.

One size fits most + the strap

Most dad hats, including ours, are one-size with an adjustable back strap (metal clasp or buckle). Tighten until it stays put when you look down; loosen if you feel pressure around the band.

Breaking it in

Cotton twill softens with wear. Curve the brim with your hands (skip the microwave tricks — they can scorch the fabric), wear it, and it’ll mold to your head within a week.

Caring for it

Hand wash or cold gentle cycle, reshape, and air dry. Never the dryer — heat shrinks cotton and stresses embroidery.
